Unless otherwise noted, all of the information concerning

Spiritual Gifts has been compiled by me, John Lounsberry. It is my desire that you will benefit from this information.

My first introduction to a Biblical teaching on Spiritual Gifts was in a leadership conference of Basic Youth Conflicts on the campus of UCLA in 1971. Since then, I have come across other Bible teachers who have added their insight to my understanding of the subject.

The material presented here is a compilation of over thirty years of study and personal experience. Any place where an author or teacher is quoted directly will be noted with quotation marks and an acknowledgement of their contribution.

I would like to especially thank Jackson Snyder, for allowing us to use his Spiritual Gifts Survey.

MOTIVATIONAL GIFTS

PROPHECY

The word prophecy, when used as a description of a motivational gift, can be somewhat misleading. We are not referring to whether or not someone is able to give prophetic words. Rather, the word prophecy in this case, is referring to the perspective from which an individual views life.

Someone with the motivational gift of prophecy, will quite often come across as being rather stern in their dealings with other people.
To a "prophet", everything is either black or white. There is very seldom any grey areas. From the view point of the "prophet", the most important thing is to name sin and root it out. Quite often, people are hurt by the abrupt actions and judgements of a "prophet".

Some denominations have been "top - heavy" with people in controlling positions having the motivational gift of prophecy. As a result, their affiliated churches would quite often stress the need for decisions and repentance without providing opportunities for spiritual growth and various areas or ministry.
To effectively function, there needs to be an overall balance in order to develop a healthy ministry.

AMPLIFICATION

The basic motivation of someone with the gift of "prophecy", is to reveal unrighteous motives or actions by presenting God's truths. Obviously, this is necessary in order to act as a "check" . In fact, the presence of those with the motivational gifts of prophecy will keep others from giving way to worldly desires and thus making bad choices.

The "prophet" will often be persuasive in speech and will often bring to light things that have been previously concealed. In fact, it is not uncommon for for someone with the motivational gift of prophecy to actually be used to "reveal the secrets of men's hearts, causing them to fall down and worship God." (ICorinthians 14:25)
