Unless otherwise noted, all of the information concerning
Spiritual Gifts has been compiled by me, John Lounsberry.
It is my desire that you will benefit from this information.
My first introduction to a Biblical teaching on Spiritual
Gifts was in a leadership conference of Basic Youth
Conflicts on the campus of UCLA in 1971. Since then, I have
come across other Bible teachers who have added their insight to my
understanding of the subject.
The material presented here is a compilation of over thirty years
of study and personal experience. Any place where an author or teacher
is quoted directly will be noted with quotation marks and
an acknowledgement of their contribution.
I would like to especially thank Jackson Snyder, for
allowing us to use his Spiritual Gifts Survey.

MOTIVATIONAL GIFT OF MERCY
When we find in scripture any references to the motivational gift of mercy, we find the Greek
word, Ellco. It means to feel sympathy with or for others. The Mercy giver seems
to always say the right thing at the right time. He is the one on whom people call first when
they have a problem. He seems to have just the right words whenever a tragedy occurs.
The Mercy Shower goes beyond merely showing sympathy for someone. He or she has empathy with
others. He seems to go through the tough situations with those who are suffering loss. The
MERCY-SHOWER seems to always say the right thing at the right time. He is the one people call
first when they hurt because something bad has happened, or when they feel great because of
some good thing happening to them. When there is a death, the mercy-shower is the first to be
at the house holding someone's hand or fixing a meal. When there is a promotion on the job or
a large amount of money comes in, the mercy-shower is there to participate in the rejoicing.
Some people think of the mercy-shower as being weak or a compromiser, but he usually has
some strong beliefs and principles. It's just that he doesn't like to hurt anyone's feelings,
so he doesn't express them very often. People also have a tendency to "use" him since he is so
easy going. When church members visit someone at the nursing home or hospital, they usually
spot the mercy-shower since that's where he spends much of his time. The mercy shower is fu!l
of prayer requests at any prayer meeting since he is close to those in the church who are
hurting.
Whenever the Mercy Shower faces a situation that requires stern measures in dealing with
other people, it is usually best for him or her to get help from someone else. In fact, a
Prophet could be used to point out sin in someone else's life. Also, an Exhorter would be the
one to help set up a plan of action for getting through a particular crises situation.
