| by John Lounsberry This was written for Susan, our oldest daughter. She had been experiencing what she called a "long hot summer". There were so many things that had happened to their family that she was experiencing discouragement. Our family had planned a surprise birthday party for her. However, rather than wait for the party, I gave her a copy of the poem early. I sensed that she needed some encouragement right then. I wrote a note for her at the bottom of the poem. You will find that same note at the bottom of this page. Deep within, there is such a drive for self expression.
The very forces of life are pulling and pushing me. Where is tranquility? Where is peace? Never mind the test, I haven't even read the lesson! My dream has been to make the correct choice, but all I seem to have are responsibilities. This yearning is deep within my soul. No, I can't push one more time. No, I have nothing else to give.
As the butterfly emerged from her life's greatest battle, she shouted, "Now, I can truly live." And deep within, there was the caterpillar who sighed, "Now, I can truly be me." Life has it's struggles and quite often, the dust cloud of battle and conflict hides the purpose of the test. Jesus tenderly and lovingly extends His arms and with compassion in His eyes says,
Susan, I hope that this will be your"butterfly year" Love, Dad |
NOTE: As it turned out that year was the beginning of a "metamorphosis" for Susan. She is a handmaiden of the Lord "in whom He is well pleased".
